To technically consider a car a TRANS AM...

What must be changed? IE what is just about every difference from a firebird from a trans am? I just want to prove to my friend his car isn't an official trans am as well as a technical trans am :P

It can vary a little by year. Give us all the specs of the alleged T/A and I'm sure we can figure it out. Don't forget the VIN and RPO's.

The year does affect this answer, but for most years of 3rd Gens, Trans Ams (GTA are an option to a Trans Am) were considered a separate model and got a unique Vin Code (5th digit = W). The base Firebird (Formulas are an option of the base) have a "S" for the 5th Digit of the Vin#.

In addition to the "W" in the VIN, the RPO tag must have the "WS4" designated for the model conversion.

The WS6 performance suspension wasn't on all TA/Formulas.

WS6 was on all Formulas, but not all TA's.

Check the VIN, easiest way.

...True. But the model conversion RPO code for a Trans Am is WS4, not WS6.
