Engine Identification

Hi all. I recently bought a `91 Trans Am 305 TPI, (I think). The problem is, the car's had a replacement engine. I don't know how to ID it. I can't see the casting number. The following number came off the front of the engine, below the AC compressor on the passenger side; 0720CLH. Does this mean anything to anyone? If not, does anyone know another way to find the year and displacement. Any help would be greatly appreciated since there aren`t that many Small Block owners in England.

mortec.com has a bunch of information about casting numbers and where to find them.

The year isn't that important really, just the size.

Enkil. Thanks a lot mate. You've put my mind at rest. That site was exactly what I was looking for. The reason I wanted to know the year was that it was supposed to have come with a `91 motor. If they'd swapped in an '85 and not told me Id have been pretty wound up.

Incidentally, the website you gave me, (mortec.com). My second name happens to be Mort. Weird or what?
