Thinking about tranny and axle gears
If im running either a 305 or 350. Simple mild cam, rebuilt engine, either carb or TBI, running a T-5. I am just wondering what kinda rear end / final gear for tranny I should consider. I had a 88 Camaro with a 350, with a 3.23 rear end, and it had loads of power but with the th350 tranny, she loved the gas, just loved it she did.
So what im thinking is going with something the same with the 3.23 rear end, but I'm wondering what kinda gear for tranny I should go for, I still want performance, but for street or weekend use if you havn't beaten someone by 3rd gear ish your prob not gonna win. So I'm wondering what some of you have done about tranny gears to get some fuel economy out of them..
Thanks
Joe

Get 3.73's even if your doing all highway mileage a couple extra bucks a week is worth the extra gear when you floor it.
One could also argue that bring the engine to a higher rpm will produce more torque, requiring less throttle, resulting in better mileage.
I tach about 2500 on the freeway with 3.73's

im going to put 4:11 in my rear-end... i dont want to be dissapointed with 3.73 i figure im going to be around 3000 rpm
