Exhaust size and flow..

Hi

Im about to build the exhaust for my "new" engine.
My engine should deliver around 400chp -+15hp @ 6000rpm

Exhaust setup i got in mind is this:

I got hooker longtube headers, and the hooker front y-pipe.
The front Hooker y-pipe is dual 3" (from the headers ) going to a strait (singel) 3" tube (no cat).

From that singel 3 inch tuben I got the magnaflow catback to end it all. Dual 2,5"

http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/parts/15658_lg.jpg

Im a bit worried that the center 3 inch pipe is going to kill flow to much. ( Going from dual 3 inch to a singel 3 inch )

As I dont have a good exhaust builder around the corner where I live I would like to keep it simple.

Hope you can guide me.

First thing is to do a search in the Exhaust board. This has been covered many times.

To sum it up for you...

A single 3" pipe has more sectional area than two 2-1/4" pipes, and just a hair under two 2-1/2" pipes.

The scavenging effect of running the two head pipes into one (granted it's done smoothly. Not a "T" like the factory) 3" pipe can possibly cause a single 3" to flow better than two 2-1/2" pipes (theoretically).

The problem is the muffler. If you really want to make sure the muffler flows enough, do a search under my name for (nevermind. I did it for you.) That will give you the part numbers of two mufflers that will flow enough to support up to ~400 HP, IIRC.

Click here for the search results.

Your setup will kill all exhaust velocity and scavenging. If you want duals go for 2.25 or 2.5 max.

ok. But as I said im going to use magnaflow cat back system, im sure the magnaflows will flow enough? My biggest worry is the singel 3 " pipe.

Will kill velocity and scavenging, and your single 3" exhaust will be too small for 400hp.

Here we go again.

Will someone please move this to the exhaust board so I don't have to look at it.

This type of thinking is exactly why I don't even go to the exhaust board anymore.

Its not that its really too small for 400hp, its that its not optimum.

i know its not the best, but if it holds me back "just" 5-10 hp i can live with that.
