oil pressure, ?

my oil pressure gauge is pinned up all the way most of the time, sometimes it shakes a little around 60psi, but for the most part is straight up. Is this normal or ok? Do I have an oil flow problem, or is the sensor just bad. I just recently purchased the car used, its an 87 iroc 305tpi. THanks!

Akuma,

Verify the pressure with a mechanical gauge adapted to the pressure line port. If the dash instrument is correct, you might want to consider a lower viscosity oil, like 10W30 synthetic.

If the mechanical gauge does not confer with the dash instrument, change the sending unit.

well, I'm running mobil formula 1 5w-30 right now with an a/c delco filter, both are brand new. (this problem was occuring before I changed the oil+filter.) I'm not sure where the pressure line port is, and where can I purchase (or borrow) a mechanical gauge. If I'm correct, the sending unit is right above the oil filter mount?
Thanks Vader!

Akuma,

There should be a port above the oil filter mount and another to the left of the distributor on the rear ledge of the case. You might have to remove a pressure sensor to temporarily install the mechanical gauge, but it would only be temporary.

As much trouble as it is dealing with a mechanical gauge, and as cheap as a OP sending unit is, I'd suggest just swapping it out. They go bad kind of alot. One with an intermittent open will make the gauge read full scale most of the time. You might want to check the wire and the connector to make sure they're not damaged.
