giant flat spot when floored?

hey,

i just bought a 85 t/a with 74k on it, its a 305/5speed, not sure if ho or not, but it pulls pretty good with the exception of a flat spot if taken above about 3/4 throttle? would this be a quadrajet problem, or an ignition problem? it pulls all the way up to 4k then just acts like no throttle is being applied at all. is this some sort of safety thing with the electric carb?

Sounds like a fuel delivery problem. Replace the fuel filter first. Then check the fuel pressure when this condition exhibits itself. You may have a weak fuel pump as well (fairly common).

True. I usually say it, but dropped the ball this time.

Make sure the ignition is up to snuff before chasing carb/fuel issues.

ok, cool, so this could be cheaper than messin with the carb? i was wondering, because driving it the last couple days, it stutters sometimes coming off the throttle in any gear...
