car starting problem

not sure where the problem is originating...but heres a breif history.

car sat for a month and wouldn't start at all, wouldn't even turn over...it WOULD jump though. Tightened starter cable wires and this fixed it...worked fine for a few weeks.

shut the car off one day and it wouldnt' start at all...wouldn't jump either. there was no spark at all when i attached the jumper cables. I haven't checked to see if the starter cables are loose again, but would this keep it from sparking the cables?

i've also been told it could be a ground. what grounds should i check? and what else might it be?

Check your battery and connections... get a multi meter and check your volts.... try charging the battery and then check your volts after a day or so...

battery is brand new...i'm pretty sure its not the alt, the alt is fairly new. and why wouldn't it jump if it was just the alt?

what's the CCA of the battery you're using? sounds like lots of resistance in your wiring and at your connections (until you tightened them), and possibly a bad solenoid or starter. does the solenoid hit the starter and make a noise? weak battery would cause the solenoid to strike repeatedly and start slowing down. depending on how many CCA ur battery has, jump starting the car would help in the case of a dying starter (dying starters pull more amps than a comparable good starter). follow the negative battery cable(s) to wherever they go (body, engine block etc) and make sure those connections are good. hope this helps.

could it be corrosion on connectors? fuses? not sure where the problem is and probably not the alt, but just so you know I had mine in a different car replaced less than a 1000 miles (month and a half) after I bought it. Bad voltage regulator. I wouldn't assume that if part is new, it is not bad.
