Hey guys, this isnt for my car, but a friend's 2.8 'maro.

When I start it, the car idles REALLY rough, I mean it is like the timing is retarded a heck of a lot (which it's not). It smells of fuel, and when we put it into drive it just dies.

I did a nice long two hour search on the subject and I'm fairly confident (without checking the fuel pressure since I dont have/can afford new tools atm) that it's a fuel pressure regulator gone faulty, dumping fuel into the cylinders making it run so rich that it runs like crap.

Would this be your guys' general concencous (sp?) as well?

One easy way to verify that is to remove the vacuum pilot line from the FPR while the fuel pump is operating. If fuel spews from the vacuum hose bibb, the FPR diaphragm is leaking.

 

Thanks for the reply Vader. I checked, and nothing happened, so I got into the car and started it up, found out it had codes stored... so I picked up the codes, a 34, and a 45

34 - MAP voltage too high/too low
45 - O2 sensor senses rich condition

So I can safely conclude that the MAP sensor is faulty and I need a new one. Right? heh.
