Magic PS Belt?

Went to work this morning and I had no power steering. I figure the pump packed it in, since it had been squeeling. I just went and checked it and the belt was on upside down and just slightly too loose, so the pump isnt spinning. I know for a fact i put the belt on the proper way when i put the engine in and i have photos proving this. Some how it flipped itself over with hardly any slack. I had to loosen the pump completley to get the belt off and back on. Im think maybe a trip to 6k rpm did this?

Anyone seen this before?

I had a similar belt turning on the '57 summer of 2003. Turned out to be an alternator with excessive thrust movement and poor pulley alignment. I'd suspect you've got at least an alignment problem.

Mine flipped over once, it was a loose a bit and I never got around to fixing it. I think I had some high rpm moves on the highway, then it started squeeling everyonce and awhile.. I didnt think much of it for a couple of days knowing that it was loose. When I finally decided to fix it, it was as you said, upside down. High rpms, loose belt, and missalignment between the pullys can make the belt flip over.

replace it with a new belt, and verify pulley alignment.

belts that have rolled over are shot. They do that when they begin to break bands on one side.

A sure fire way to make a belt do that is to install it by "rolling it over" the pulley, without taking tension off. Be sure not to do that.
