Welcome aboard.

What will it do?

What happens when you turn the ignition to run?
What happens when you turn the ignition to start?
Do the interior lights work?
Do the headlights work?

Yes, I get headlights and interior lights. When I try and crank her up nothing happens. The security light comes on for a few seconds then goes off.

Sounds like your VATS is screwed up. Do a for "vats" to solve the problem.

It's never a good idea to throw parts and money at a car for ant reason. Always test or have parts tested before replacing it saves both time and money.

What about the lock cylinder? It has to read the key correctly right?

Yes thats the VATS system, the resistor on your key is probably bad.
