I have what u call...A PROBLEM!

Went to go time my car tonight with the G-tech and these problems happened.

#1. Lined my car up, went to floor it and I saw an explosion of fire inside my open element and the car instantly stalled out. But it started right back up and ran like it did before, but it has been doing that on and off lately and its only when I floor it or give it 3/4 throttle from idle.

#2. Lately I have also been hearing a ringing at idle. Maybe it rings at higher speeds but I can't tell because of my exaust noise.

#3. When I am G-teching the car, it seems to loose power at around 45mph. I am thinking maybe my fuel pressure needs to be boosted because there is more air coming in that 14x3 open element from my ram air hood, but its just a guess.

SOOOO...these are my problems. Is my timing bad one way or the other? Thats my guess. I would go in the garage and check my plugs but the garage is full right now.

making sure you have a good tune up might be a place to start and knowing the timing is correct is always a good thing.

I am going to tell you something that someone told me and I got pissed off ... check that firing order.

How in the hell could I get the firing order out? Well, apparently, I had 5 and 7 crossed so there. Was losing power at 45 and was getting backfire at heavy throttle. Sounds kind of similar, but most forget the simple things to check for. I did.

And yes, base timing is always a good start too!

91,

Your little explosion sounds like lean backfire. Verify the timing. Check fuel pressure and flow.

Make sure the MAP can handle the higher absolute pressure from the RA hood, and that the ECM fuel map is tuned for a higher MAP reading.

And as Ed and Allan point out, don't overlook the obvious.
