Any Advice?? Alternator Question
Hey Guys, how is everyone? Well actually I have two questions. I am sure some of you in here will know the answers. I have an 89 GTA 5.7 TPI, and the first question is that the volt gauge is not accurate. It reads around 12 most of the time (On the Dash), when I put the meter on the car (At the Battery) it is really 13.8 volts with the AC on and the radio, and the dome lights on, Idling. I was wondering if there was a sensor, or sending unit etc, that I could change that would make this more accurate. Okay here is the last question. I just put a new Alternator on (Discount Auto) with a Lifetime warranty. When the car is Idling with the AC on, radio, dome lights, it is about 13.8 volts. If I rev her up she might go to 13.9. Now if I put the lights on Fog & headlights,AC,Dome and Radio, the voltage is 12.6,and when I rev her it wont go any higher?¿! So I can't imagine what would happen with the wipers on also, I would probably be discharging. Does this sound correct, or should I take this Alternator back? Thanks for all the help Guys!
RIDE ON!

The gauges are pretty inacurate, although the voltage gauge is the best one.
As far as voltage is concerned, 12-14 isn't that bad. You should be more worried about amps.
