Pegged my RPM gauge. How?
Well, I was having some fun with the new 350 a couple of days ago. . . so I stopped it in the middle of the street back in this industrial complex and just stomped on the gas.
Of course the rear end is all over the place, but all in all, fun none-the-less. . . until I look down and I see the RPM gauge being pegged, then it shifts, and it does this throughout the run. Now I'm pretty sure it's been doing this ever since the engine swap, but I just really haven't been paying attention until now.
Stats for the engine are in the sig, and the tranny is a rebuilt one with a Transgo-shift kit, vette servo, external tranny cooler with a stock converter.
Now we do have to make her idle a little high (fluctuates from 1100 - 1400 RPMs) in order to keep her running (the chip is not dialed in very well), but I'm not sure if the chip has anything to do with the shift points, seeing how it's just a 700R4 and not a 4L60E.
So, should I be concerned with it reving that high? Possible problems or causes of??

The stock tachs are horrendously off. I would use a scan tool or get an aftermarket tach to see what you are really running in comparison to your tach. Winaldl will also tell you.

But luckily, there's someone in my local area with more experience with this stuff, and we're going to meet up and hopefully get some datalogging done.
I think you're right though, because it tells me at 70mph on the freeway that I'm at around 4000 RPM's. . . with 3.23's?? That can't be right can it?

I have seen in car videos of deweys car and he shifts after the tach is pegged way past 7k. He is really only at 6100. Supreme Member

Your RPM gauge/ tachometer is bad, you need a new one. I'd suggest just replacing it with an aftermarket piece.

3) The Republicans take your money and give it to their rich associates.
4) The Democrats take your money and give it to those less fortunate than the rich.
Which group are you in? Which ones NEED your money the most?
Not saying your viewpoint is wrong. Just a little something to think about.
Good luck with your engine.

Anyways, is it possible that my RPM gauge might be accurate at lower levels and then become progressively more off as the RPM's increase?
Maybe time for an aftermarket dash?

I guess it's just a matter of buying a wire or spring or whatever it is back there huh? Good thing there's a speedo shop about 20 minutes from here that does nothing but fix gauges. How much would be too much to pay for said job?

No, throw it in the trash. You can get a whole new set of gauges for pretty cheap, on ebay, the classifieds, the junkyard....
Or just replace the gauge, either with a stock one, or aftermarket. It will cost alot to get it repaired and is just idiotic and republican.

I've checked online for repair shops, they range from $85-$125 to repair it.
The problem with buying a guage or cluster from E Bay, junkyard etc, is that you don't know if the replacement is going to work or not or if it is what they say it is.
I bought a cluster off E Bay that was supposed to have been out of an IROC. When I removed the tach from it and looked on the back of the face there was a nice little sticker that said " V6"...useless tach there.

Actually i just remembered i have my old gauge cluster out of a 83 LG4. I screwed up the speedo trying to roll back the odometer for the fun of it and broke it. The tach still works perfectly, let me know if you want the tach or the gauge cluster. I will sell it pretty cheap, make me an offer.

My tach is so ridiculously off its sad. It idles occording to the stock tach at 1300. But when I have datamaster hooked up its at 800. 3000 on the tach is 2000 on datamaster. 6500 on the tach is 4700 on datamaster. In fact, I shift at about 5700 rpm's, and it goes past the 7000 on my tach. Stock tachs are useless.
