How long did it take to find your Camaro?

I've been looking for a few months now with no luck. I went yesterday to look at an 83 IROC Z28 fairly new rebuilt 350. What a totally wasted trip! She wanted $1900 for a car with a bad paint job, ripped seats, headliner, no emblems or stickers. A mess. It's either been something ike that(or worse) or a nice looking car that someone wants $4500 for.
The best one I've seen (and is still available) is a 86 IROC Z28 305 TPI 16" rims w/great interior great exterior, but it has a crunched hood that will have to be replaced. He's asking $2600.

It took me like 6 months I think, and a trip to east L.A., but it was well worth it. I just didn't give in, I had already owned an 88 IROC and knew exactly what I wanted the next time around...didn't stop till I found it

well i looked around for probably two months. i had seen the add in the paper for my car many times, and i never wanted a hardtop but i wanted a 350. then after i sold my 99 MONTE Z34 i decided i would take a look. i went to the guys house and he openend the garage. and bam i fell in love. it was the car of my dreams.
BRIGHT RED 350 with an almost perfect interior. i bought it on the spot, gave him $100 down and came back two days later (thursday Dec 8th ,1999) and took the car, never even drove it. gave him the rest of the 4700 and took the car, i went for my first ride after he had gone inside. and that thing was sooo powerful. i loved it. and after this weekend i will never sell my car! EVER.
i just put $5000 in it. $4000 in paint and body work, and $1000 in GM parts. i work at the dealership and all those parts are priced at 10% over cost, so i would be looking at around 1800 in parts normally!
employee discounts are great!!

oh yeah i will never buy a Ttop car for performance either. that is what i wanted but no way now. hardtops rule for racing and stuff..
but i do want a Ttop or a convertible for cruising and daily driving!!

I guess this doesn't really count, but I wasn't looking, really. I knew I wanted another one (used to have an '85) and one day I was driving on down the road to get some small parts for my boat and was just checking out each car lot as I drove by them. I saw what (I hoped) I wanted at this one place, and drove it home that night - had it for a little over 8 years now... Good luck in finding what you want...

It took me 13 months! That's only because I wan't going to settle just for anything. I knew exactly what I wanted and wouldn't settle for anything less. What's worse was that I found it by accident. I went to look at the one I wanted and it was sold 2 hours before I got there. Then I saw my Z and decided to look at it. Wasn't all that great but had a decent price. After looking closer, I realized the car was in almost perfect condition.....just dirty. Drove it home, cleaned it inside and out and wola, a brand new looking car that runs like a bat out of hell. Even 3 years later!

it took me 5 months and i found a 1987 IROC 305 TPI Black on Black in great condition except a blown 305 and and needs a shift arm for 5th.

good price and now i can put a 350 in there and the trans should be not too hard to do. If i have to i will get a mechanic from a GM dealer on the side to do it. I doubt it tho.

Took me 6 mos. to find my 87 Iroc....had 60k 350 Tpi...t-tops and loaded with a daytona turbo hood...cant remember what the price "was" but I eneded up only paying $450 total...the credit union I ended up financing it through went under...They tried repo'ing it to recover theyre money but did'nt get it so they had to write off the loan and sent me the title...HAHAHAHA

Ive been looking for a 350 TPI Iroc for about 3 months. Went to go look at a black 89 5.7 IROC, he said it only had 15,000 miles on it. Got there, it looked like it had 150,000 and the paint had orange peel.

Went to look at a BEAUTIFUL Blue 87 5.7 IROC, looked and ran GREAT! But the oil pressure wouldnt go past 27 no matter what. And it was a automatic, so I was going 20 Mph and it wouldnt shift down if I went from D to 1. So Im still looking........

Four days! I broke up with my fiance of 5 years on Jan 11, 1990. Started looking 2 days later and on Jan 17 bought my '89 Red 5.7 Irocz and I'm still driving it today. Actually it took me a couple of years to get it since I had wanted one when they first came out with the 350, but I guess you could say I was kind of whipped at the time because she didn't want me to have one . I never did understand her. When I met her I had a '77 Camaro and a '78 Z28, but she never wanted me to get a new one. Oh well she's gone and I'm happy!

6 years! Most all of the ones that I looked at were a hacked up heap with a huge pricetag! I had given up for a year and just happened to be surfing the net and hoped over to auto trader. Came across my car and decided to e-mail the guy for some reason. I ended up buying it about a week later! It was an hour away, a real mess, but it was not damaged and it was ALL there. The motor was blown too. About a year and 11 grand later, it is almost fully restored. Just have to get it over to the paint shop yet. Next week the way things are looking if I can ever find another car to drive in the mean time!

well my moms boyfriend had a 89rs with alot of potential, it sat in his garage forever. low miles, nice paint, fresh interior, blah blah. it took me 2 years to get him to sell it, and when he said ok i gave him a wallet shattering $2500. i really got lucky. i added iroc rims,grill,foglights and did a little stuff here and there. now its has almost 165,000 miles on it and my next door neighbors boyfriend tries to buy it everytime i see him. he offered $3500. as soon as i find an iroc in IMMACULATE shape i am gonna sell it to him.thanks for listening.

It took me a year to find mine. I read an ad in the paper and went to look at it. It is a 89 irocz 305 tpi auto, he was asking 5500 the paint was fading, the engine ran good and the trans shifted good but I didn't do anything at that time. About 6 months later my brother was driving home and said there was a IROC for sale and toldme where. So I went to look. THE SAME CAR FOR 4100. A week later offered him 3800 cash and drove it home. It now has a 350 and lots of fun later

It took be from April to November of last year. I ended up paying $5,200 for a decent (but not perfect) 5.7 IROC. Be careful out there - if you really want a 5.7, be aware that alot of guys badge the 5.0's as 5.7's. The numbers of times that I saw this blew my mind. I personally decided that I would never buy a car from a guy who would do that...

"Tech"nically speaking, I didn't "find" mine. I drove by it sitting on the curb at the end of our block for 4 years until a 'For Sale' sign went on it. I checked it out, offered less, dragged it home.

After I had it running, I discovered this board. Had I know about thirdgen.org before, I probably would have known better than to get what I got.

Love it, but just spent too much money getting here. I just hope I've helped save others from the mistakes I've made - I know I've been saved from myself by people on this board since.

You poor american bums.. There are far too many good looking third gens for sale down here in Canada.. (yes, believe it or not the snow does go away just long enough to own one). I drove by two gorgious roc's for sale today.. and they are much cheaper than I hear you guys talking about.. They beauty roc's were both going for under 10K (so around 6500 american). I bought my 84 Recaro TA for 2600 canadien in good shape (not excellent - good).. you boys need to pick up the Auto Trader, and make a trip down here...

well I have owned 5 of them. But anyway. I owned 2 in high schol. I bought them at a local car auction for get this, less than 200 a peice! I got a clean 76 rs and a 85 rs. The 2 I currently own 1 I bought at a dealer in Va after about 3 months of looking. Paided way too much, but made up for the 91 t top for 650.

I wasn't really looking for one when I found mine. I was actually looking for an 80's g-body to make into a race car. Buick LeSabre or Olds Cutlass were my first choices. A friend went with me to look at a T-type. It's wasn't quite what I wanted. When I took him back home I noticed he had an IROC sitting in his front yard. He just finished putting it back together after a vandilism write off. The body was in excellent condition and it already had a 383 in it. The original L98 was going into his 66 pickup. I didn't want the 16" rims so I offered him a good price for the rest of the car. Within a 2 weeks it was striped down and ready to race.

ES87iroc: You don't have a 9 bolt with 3.23 gears. If it's a 9 bolt then you probably have 3.27 gears.

I waws looking for about 2 months when i found mine and decided it was out of my price range. Then i kept looking and found nothing like it. Talked the guy down wanted then 3 weeks later after searching into a lein the car is mine.

EXACT SAME thing with me. First two thirdgens i saw were junked Camaros selling for way too much. My Trans Am was 10,000 X better than the Camaros and at least $200 cheaper.

On my first third-gen it took me 15 months. I stumbled on it by accident at a Volvo dealer, and they had the car for nine months!
My second third-gen took me right at a year to find. It takes a while to find hardtop Z28's in good condition in the south.

It took me about 6 months to find mine. I paid $3000 for it - probably more than I should have because it had been in wreck once and the dealer kept insisting it was a 350 and not a 305. Had I known that 350s are vastly more desirable than 305 I would have made him knock off another $500 off the price. But I guess $3000 isn't all that bad either. As far as the condition of the car is concerned, I don't think it's all that great but all my friends really like the car and people always ask me if I want to sell it. It looks good but I know where all the problems are. To begin with it had one of those good-'nuff-to-sell-the-car paint jobs on it and crappy repair work to the front end where it was hit. Tires were shot. Engine electronics and vacuum hoses were all wonky. Burned tranny fluid, and the essential wasted headliner.
