Code 43 after engine install....

I just put in my speed density 355 TPI with headers, new cam, adjustible fuel pressure regulator, custom PROM, and a few other minor things. Starts and runs, but I get code 43 (electronic spark control) from the check engine light. I haven't a clue as to where to start to fix it. Also, is this code affecting performance in any way at all? ANY help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Also, did all years of TPI come with an ESC? This would be a problem if they didn't because I converted an 89 TPI motor to speed density. Thanks.

Basically a code 43 means that the ECM isn't getting a signal from the ESC. That could be due to the knock sensor going bad or not having a good ground or connection, the ESC gone bad or not getting a good connection to the ECM, or the ECM is bad. The ECM will either advance the timing regardless of knock (bad for the engine), or it'll retard it, Killing performance.
