T5 flywheel for a 400 sbc
Hey guys. I once put a 350 behind my T5, using a late block and my stock 305 flywheel. But to put a 400 behind a T5 style flywheel, Iwas told the only way to do it would be to use a early 4.3L 153 tooth diameter flywheel, and have it balanced with the rotating assembly. I was told that it will have an early crank boltpatter, small diameter needed to work with T5 bellhousing/clutch, and is externally balanced.
BTW: before anyone tells me NOT to run the T5, I know, I broke 7 of them...I am just trying to figure out a way that it could be done. Thanks.

When I did that, I used a 83-85 305 flywheel, and had it "unbalanced" to the stock 400 balance spec.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you have it and your engine's rotating assembly bakanced together. About the last thing you want, is a one-of-a-kind flywheel that's the only one in the world that will work with your motor. It's not much fun to have to tear your motor back down and take it back to the balance shop to have another flywheel "custom"-balanced to it, when you have to replace it.
Only 7 T-5s? Must not have been much of a 350.

Two world class T5s, and 5 pick your part v6 trannies. Pick your part had 90 day money back guarantee.....
I don't want a one of a kind flywheel, i had this issue once before. I just didn't know what else to do with a 406 and a T5 style flywheel.
So, elaborate on how you had the 305 flywheel "unbalanced".... just have the material removed or what? thanks

An array of holes drilled around the edge.... it took maybe 8 or 10 holes, maybe ½" dia and about that same depth. This was in the lightweight L69/LB9 flywheel; not the heavy LG4 one for low-perf engines.

McCleod also makes a "stock" 153 tooth flywheel for a 2 piece rear main seal externally balanced small block. I got mine from Summit for my 383 SuperRam setup with a T-5 when I put it in last May....
