What made the HO carbed have more horsepower than stock carbed in the 305 86 models?

Higher compression, better flowing exhaust, more aggressive fuel curve, better cam.....stuff that makes an HO what it is. But both engines are stock...ie came from the factory that way.

'83-'84 models only. '85-'86 LG4's had flat-tops for the same compression as the L69. Makes it pretty easy to make an "HO clone" out of one of them.

L69 also had the dual snorkel air cleaner (cowl inlet for 'Birds).

L69 also routed the AC lines differently (minor detail).

Better exhaust manifolds as well. You only mentioned the rest of the exhaust.

I heard something about early HO motors having the better X-rods and LG4s not having them, but I could be wrong about that.

As another "minor detail," I recently learned that the HO had the 15 pound flywheel. I've read that the HO might have had an underdrive crank pulley. Any truth there? They also were equipped with an electric fan . Maybe I'm off topic, so I'll shut up.

Ah, electric radiator fan and knock sensor. LG4 picked up electric radiator fan in '86, I believe also the knock sensor with the compression increase in '85 (somebody with an '85 will have to verify that - there's no mention of it in the Tech Data, although the electric radiator fan is mentioned for '86).
