I have 92 350 in my 87 bird. What i am doing is switching from a tpi setup to a carb setup. So i ditched the ecm,and all the factory efi stuff. Now i have a victor jr intake and a 750vs holley. My question is i bought a msd distributor part #8360 one of the small cap hei distributors. I am running a comp cams XE262HR-12 roller cam and want to know if the stock gear that comes with this distributor is going to work or if i need to buy a different gear?

I would call both comp and MSD to see what they recommend..heres what happened to me when I used the factory installed gear from MSD.
I had the same dilema when I installed the first roller cam in my car. I was told by MSD tech support that the factory installed gear was a melonized metal and would work fine with a roller cam. The gear ended up wearing down, breaking and falling down into the oil pan. Since then I've always used a bronze gear with roller cams and have never had any problems. A bronze gear is a softer metal and is designed to wear but not break. I called the cam manufacturer (Bullit) and they said to always use a bronze gear with roller cams. After this experience I always use a bronze gear with roller cams so I don't have to worry about it breaking.
I would definately call both comp and msd in your case to see what they recommend because some new roller cams are supposed to not require a bronze gear(like the comp I'm using now)...or just use a bronze one for peace of mind.
