Timing/Knocking Problem!

OK, here goes.... I hear what I believe to be knocking at 0 degrees base timing. So we experimeted a bit.

We put it 4 degrees advanced and left the ESC connector undone. There was absolutely NO PINGING whatsoever. However, when I restarted it with the esc connector plugged in, I heard the faint detonation at partial throttle, like I usually hear. I don't have a engine code, and it runs fine so I don't think its carbon buildup.

This is on a 89 LO3 w/ true dual exhaust and a K&N filter.

Am I incorrect in saying that the Knock Sensor might be weak or bad? The other thing is posibly a bad ECM. What do you guys think?

Adam

it could be the knock sensor it self or the esc module going out.

Ok, and where is the ESC module? In the distributor?

you can test the knock sensor by tapping on the block near it while it's running with a timing light on it. You should see it retard a few degrees.
