no sound whatsoever
hey guys,
another problem with my car. First let me thank you guys for your help each time. Anyway, about 2 days ago i was out all day driving in my car and it ran great cause it was a lil cool out so the car was cool. anyway, i parked the car and about 4 hours later i went to go out and i turned the key, it sounded like it was about to start but it didnt. i tried again and now when i turn the key nothing happens, nothing. no sound whatsoever. The battery is fine, i even tried a jump anyway. could the starter have just gone?Im takeing the car to the mechanic (dont know how) i wanna know what to tell him since im a kid and dont want to get ripped off. Sorry for rambling but me without my car is just not cool.
- thanks in advance, Adam

How about if you try it with a screwdriver across the 2 terminals? It may be as simple as a solenoid going/went south.

On the starter, there is the solenoid. The starter itself is on the passenger side of the engine. If you look down, you will see a big round metal thing. It looks like a coffee can. That is the motor. Just above it is the solenoid. It is a little plastic cylinder, about 3" in diameter, maybe 5" long. You will see a big terminal where the battery cable leads. You will also see a smaller terminal to the right of it (closest to the engine block). Take a long screwdriver and basically bridge those 2 terminals.

Here's a picture (not my engine). This is viewing from the passenger side, rear. Circled in black is what/where the starter motor is.

If it does start, replace the solenoid. 2 little bolts hold it to the motor. It's about a $10 part at most part stores.
