A.I.R. question

Ok.. I put on Edelbrock TES headers on my '84 L69. Well they are so close to the valve covers the air fitting on the passenger side won't go on. I have tried to bend it over so it will fit but don't think I can without taking them off again.
My questions:

1. how high of pressure is the air?

2. what is the fitting that screws onto the header and the hose attaches to? what does it do? looks like it has a restriction plate in it or something. Would it hurt to bipass this and just run the hose to the header fitting without useing the fitting?

Thanks

Yea, it would. That would melt the diverter valve (the plastic box the hoses hook up to). I dunno how much pressure there is... put your hand over the exhaust and you tell me Just dont burn yourself.

The fitting is a check valve. Without the valve in place, hot exhaust would backflow into the diverter, quickly baking it as Max described.
