Will the stock centerbolt covers clear roller rockers on 87+ 23* Trick flow heads?

IM using the Trick flow 23* 87+ heads on my 406. Just wondering if anyone has used the standard non self aligning roller rockers. With these heads and the stock valve covers. The paper work says they have a raised rail, looks like about 3/8 of an inch. IM hoping this will be enough clear the stock covers.

Thanks!...Thats what I wanted to hear. My valve covers are still on the car. What do you think of the Trick flow heads? Did you have any spark plug clearance problems with the TES?

Yes the stock rocker covers work, and yes, the Edelbrock TES will work fine. I did have to snug up a few of the plugs with a wrench and a few others with the spark plug socket and a wrench on the socket (all Snap-On tools for me ) but the plugs and wires have plenty of clearance from the headers. I have heard that cutting a spark plug socket down a bit will allow you to slide it over plugs that don't have a lot of room to get at which may be easier to do than what I did with just a wrench. I have removed the AIR pipes from my headers though, so I have enough room to route the wires directly up between the primaries to the distributor. I would suggest this mod to anyone that does not have to pass emissions as it cleans the engine up a lot and gives a lot better access to the wires and plugs. But I had the headers on it with the AIR system before I built the engine recently, and they had no major clearance problems. Don't expect the plugs to be as easy to get at as the stock setup, but they are do-able .

As for the heads...... I like mine a lot. I only have 425 miles on my engine so I haven't ran it hard yet, but it feels pretty strong and sounds awesome . Just from the normal driving and the break-in procedure I did with my engine, I can tell that it wants more intake on the top end. I did a lot of porting on the intake (matched to runners and heads) as well as opening up the plenum - including siamesing the plenum to match the runners. But it just may not be enough to get all of the power out of my cam and head combo. I kind of figured that would be the case when I built this engine, but money was tight and I figured I'd spend the money on the cam and heads now because I could do the intake stuff a lot easier than the internal engine stuff after it is installed back into the car. I am gonna wait until it is completely broke in and than run it a few times to see where I'm at. Than maybe in a few weeks I'll look at getting a Super Ram.........

Let me know if ya have any other questions about the heads........
