Xtreme Energy or PowerMax?

Which cam to use with L98 heads and a performer intake?

PM 212/218 .446/.459 2000-5000

or

XE 212/218 .447/.454 1000-5200

I want more upper RPM horsepower than low end torque.

Then you shouldn't be using a Performer intake.

Define your desired performance characteristics, then plan "the package" to acheive that.

Is this a flat-tappet or roller cam? Are you willing to do some things to the L98 heads to improve their capability? If so, how about an XE268H (flat tappet) or XR270HR (roller tappet) and RPM intake?

Just want an engine that will be fun to drive until I sell the car. Its not worth putting much money into (meaning having work done to the heads or buying another intake). Flat-Tappet. I read in an air flow chart book that L98 heads can only have 1.55" exhaust valves so why bother having them machined for .05". I am thinking about screw in studs though

What state is the vehicle/powertrain in right now?

Comp Cams always look a little better when you read the specs. However, most of my engines always seem to end up with Crane cams in them. I have had enough "issues" with Comp Cams stuff that I just don't believe the hype any more. Crane has never let me down yet. I think they have better quality control and I'll leave it at that. The 350 in my wife's Camaro, below, is a Crane flat tappet hydraulic (216/216 on a 112* LSA) and this is the THIRD engine that same cam and lifter set has been in. Nuf' said.

Either cam will give you about the same power potential. A few degrees duration or a few thousandths lift doesn't mean squat in the real world.

I agree in that they are virtually the same cam. In your case I would buy the one with the best price. Allen
