200 Iron eagles on carbed L98?

Guys I have been searching info about different cylinder heads for a long time. Trying to decide which ones to get.

First off, money is a key factor.

I switched my L98 over to carb. I plan on keeping it this way.

What I want is just a good street/strip car. I would like to be in the mid to high 12's. Nothing too radical.

I want to keep it a 350 for now, may go to a 355 or 383 later, but just stock bore right now.

I can get some 200 dart iron eagles 64cc with springs to match my cam for 800-850 from a local connection. I would like to just do a head and cam swap. Maybe a comp xtreme hyd roller grind. Im looking at the 276 or 282 grind.

I will be building my 700r4 and going with a 3000 stall.
My intake is a single plane and has a range of 2000-6500.
The rest is in my sig.

Do you guys think the darts will be a good decision? They flow 262 intake at .500 and 175 exh at .600.

Im trying to get a good plan, but keep money in mind.

thanks for any input guys/gals.

Why not spend the extra 150 and go aluminum. The Trickflow Kenny Duttweller heads outperform most others, and only cost 1050.

I accually had the trickflow in mind also. My contact will give me a great deal, If I guy heads, cam, timing chain, rr's, and push rods.
I can probably get the dart for 750-800 and get the other stuff cheaper than jegs or summit also.

I have never asked him about the trickflows. He might be able to get them also. Both the dart and trickflows are my picks. I just dont want to spend over 2g's for heads and cam swap.

Do you know any place to buy the trickflow other than summit for a good price?

What do you guys think about my plans. I should be able to reach my goals with either set of heads?

The Iron Eagles are good heads. Way better than stock L-98 castings. Not the best heads on the market, but good for the price (you can get them cheaper on e-bay or if you buy bare castings and put them together yourself from parts).

How good are they? I would put them on par with a set of Vortecs but without the hassles of needing a Vortec-style intake and the annoying lift limitations of the stock Vortecs.

I think I will hold onto them, but you should be able to pic a set up cheap on the classified board.

I will probably end up going with the trickflow's. What HP/et's do you think I could get with the trickflows on a L98 with a xtreme comp 282 hyd roller cam?

If thats the case, then check your local machine shops or junkyards. They should have some 305 castings or some 70's smog castings you could get cheap or free. It wouldnt be worth the shipping to you for what you need. Even if I gave them to you.

Vette's got the alum's. F-bodies were graced with the iron version.

I second the notion to go to your machine shop or something. That's what I did. They gave me a few 882 castings to practice on.

If they were aluminum vette heads, then I would still keep them. But yes they are the iron ones.

Well in the great City f Dallas the only machine shop around that I know of is City motor supply, and they don't give out anything.

Even if you found a cracked head, you could pratice P&P or spring replacement. Im sure someone has a set of old usless heads. Check a wrecking yard also.

Might be worth a drive out of town.

Wish I could help.
