ECM and carbed 350

Ive searched a lot and have mostly seen ecm and prom discussion for tpi and tbi applications. I have a 1985 camaro:

CC Rochester
CC distrib
Assuming CC 700r4
1977 350 block
Heads--not sure of yet.
ECM: 1226865 I guess the stock 1985 305 ecm.

I want to know how to find out if the prom has been changed to be better for the 350, or if it can be. Also, my aldl link does not make check engine light flash and i need to be inspected soon so i pulled the bulb assembly out. Will this affect car performance (timing, limp mode, etc).?

The good news is the CC carb computer isn't too smart. It makes most of the decisions for idle and cruise situations - igition timing, mostly, but otherwise just keeps the mixture as close to ideal as possible.

Some Caprices had 350s with "police" packages in the mid-80's that had a chip intended for performance. GM used to have a kit to put a ZZ4 crate engine into CC-carb equiped Camaros, it included a chip that was a little more "agressive" than the typical LG4 chip (but also drove the need to use premium gas). And the L69 chip was a little better than the LG4 chip.

As for the check engine light, you really should try to find out what trouble code(s) is being set. The light itself won't cause limp-home mode issues, but whatever is causing the light to come on may be putting you into a limp-home mode.

i cannot get the light to flash when connecting terminals A+B or when grounding the data one to the chasis. Whoever did the install may have messed something up, so i dont know where to start. If i remove the ecm and look at the prom, how can i tell which prom it is, lg4, l69, etc. ?

Toward the bottom. Should be 5-6, I believe (I've always used either a code reader or Auto X-ray).

Autozone will read codes for no charge, if you have one in your area.
