need help. problems
I have an 82 firebird with a 305 105,000 miles. i disconnected the ecm new holly 650 and a stock disttributer disconnected all pollution control junk. first problem vibration car vibrates when parked and reved but only when i let off the accelarator. also when timed to correct timing engine does seem to miss at idle 600 rpm--when timing is advanced the miss at idle is gone but vibration seems worse -also when advanced car accelerates more quickly but engine bogs at full throtle- ok first question when i am advancing the timing my engine revs up and not down right??? also about the torque converter i relize it will not lock up since there is no ecm but could this be causing some vibration?? and i know most of you are going to tell me motor but the motor does not vibrate when i am outside manually pushin the gas i can only feel the vibration if i am sitting in the car revving the engine. any comments would be appreciated at least what way do i turn the distributer to get more power turn it so the engine revs higher or turn it so it revs lower. right now it is set at 6 degrees btc where it should be. but i want more power without the vibration and to be able to open the throttle all the way.

First thing you need to try and do, is figure out if the vibration is due to an engine miss, or an engine balance issue. A 20 year old car could be in need of a new harmonic balancer, torque converter, cooling fan, etc.
But start with the easy stuff first, do the tuneup thing..plugs, cap, rotor, wires, etc.
I don't think the cause of the vibration is due to no lockup.

I did complete tune up car is in mint shape body wise new carb and ditributer only 105,000 miles on it-shocks drivetrain all in mint shape been stored in garage only driven about 1000 miles per year for past ten years the only real problem i have is with the tranny it does'nt slip and hits all gears hard but does leak tranny fluid from the pan and about 5 years ago when i bought it it had a mild shift kit put un it. when i look at motor i see no vibration but can feel it sitting in the car when i let off the gas parked so i am thinking it may be something with the tranny. motor only seems to miss if i advance my timing but only when i go full throttle driving. when timing is set to factory specs it does not miss at all but at idle the engine does lope up and down a little but i think that may be do to the holly carb 650 if i turn the idle up to 800 there is no miss but if i leave it at 600 it lopes up and down until i drop it in gear.
does the ecm control the distributor on that car? if it does you'd need a non ecm controled hei distributor.

distributer and carb are completly disconnected from ecm 650 holley and remanufactured distributer out of a pre 1980 car with vaccume advance hooked up to carb- i Am thinking the vibration is from either flywheel torque converter- and that holley 650 i have is pumping to much gas for the heads when advanced and that the 650 carb wont idle right when timed correctly because the jets are to big. so i turn uo my idle and it runs great other than the power thing. it will still chirp my 50s on dry surface from stop. maybee i am at max power and need to put my 350 in it?
