Something broke in my motor On my way to work. Please offer advice.
I was driving my iroc this morning and had just slowed down to go around a sharp curve and was four gear. As I shifted to fifth the engine Seemed to miss and was down on power. Within about 10 seconds I started to hear something banking from the engine. after about 1.5 minutes this became louder and I really became concerned. I drove back home and poped the hood and the sound seems to be coming from the top of the engine. tonight I am going to pull the valve covers and check al of the valve. The oil pressure and temperature did not change when this happen and did not change on the 20 mile trip home after this happened. Please help if you can. Sorry about being long in my explaination.

An actual banging noise coming from your engine is not a good sign. It could be anything from a rocker that backed off/broke, broken piston/bottom end parts, or best case, perhaps an accessory like your alternator or compressor had a bearing go and has something whacking around. You need to figure out exactly wher eth noise is coming from, then it should be more obvious. I also really wouldn't drive anymore until you know what it is, as driving with a rocker off, etc isn't gonna be too good for your engine.

i'd pull the belt off the engine to eliminate everything it drives and pull the valve covers to see broken valve train parts plus to see if each valve opens and is getting oiled.

Sounds like a bent/broken pushrod. Pull off the valvecovers.

Tonight I pulled the valves covers, The drivers side first and found the problem. The #3 exhaust rocker arm had come off the valve and bent the push rod. When I put the corvette heads on I did not use self-alining rocker arms and they needed them. So tonight I put on the leftover set that I got from the Vortec motor in my that is in my '69 Camaro. Thanks for the advice.
