Flexplate tooth count. is there an easy way to know what I've got?
I've got a two piece rear main seal 305 mated to a 700R4 in my '83 'Bird. Both are non-original pieces to the car.
I'm looking to buy a ministarter and need to determine if I've got 168 (Ø14") or 153 (Ø12-3/4") flexplate.
Is there an easy way to know this or do I have no choice but to drop the TC inspection cover and start counting teeth?
Thanks!

Take a look at your starter. If it's mounted with the two bolts straight arcross, it's a 153 tooth flexplate. If the mounting bolts are diagonal, it's a 168 tooth flexplate. The flexplate you have will be a 153 tooth flexplate.

Odds are it's a 12¾" one. But especially since you have a bunch of non-original parts, it could be either.
There are mini-starters that have both bolt patterns. CVR makes one like that, it's what I have on my car. Use that one or one like it and you won't have to worry about it.
