This one has had me stumped for months now????

Ok this one has me stumped.....I'v seen pics of TPI engines with a K&N Filter rite off of the Throttle Body, sounds like the perfect solution to the lack of air getting into firebird engines....but WTF where would you put your MAF sensor. I'v been trying to figure this one out for months

How hard is it to go from MAF to Speed Density?

Don't swap to speed-density on your stock 305. You'll be really disappointed as soon as some of theose "Much more to come in July" modifications start happening.

What you need to consider (not necessarily do, but at least consider) is an air cleaner modification and a K&N filter in the existing housing. The K&N filter part number is E-0890, and I got mine for $24.00.

The modification for the air cleaner is outlined in this file:

Air Flow.pdf

Getting adequate flow to your engine is easy with a few simple tools.

FyrBrd,

Since you have a similar vehicle to my '86, have you checked the ECM/PROM lately? There was a TSB regarding the PROM and some faulty programming. Thsi wasn't discovered until October of 1986 - well after the last car was assembled and shipped. Even some early '87 models got the "bugged" PROM. The replacement PROM is offered from GM for about $50.00. To me, it was well worth it. The mid-range mixture is slightly enriched, taqrget idle speed was increased 50 RPM, the TCC lockup point was changed from 28 MPH to 41 MPH, and there is no fuel cutoff programmed at 118 MPH. There are several other enchancements, including a wider range of acceptable inputs from the MAF and oxygen sensor before setting a DTC. Code 44 errors are almost eliminated unless you truly have a mixture problem. My car runs totally different with the upgrade. It's even better than the HyperTech paperweight I had installed in it before I discovered the new GM PROM.
