Starter for LG4 700R4?
I looking into a mini starter to replace my original Delco Starter.
1. With an 1983 LG4 and a 700R4 do I have 153 or 168 teeth?
2. Any starter recommendations?
thanks,
phil

A starter from about a '95 LT1 works real good.. I have one in my GTA, and its small and gets the job done, without costing a bunch of money - ~$115

I assume that is a GM starter for the 95 LT1? Do you have a part number? Will the bolts match the holes in my block?

Yeah, you can get them at any parts store (I got mine at advance)... An alternative would be an actual gear-reduction mini-starter (also available at Advance Auto Parts - ask for part number 3510GRHBK)...
Yes, it should go just fine on your block (I'm using one on my 1991 L98, it uses the straight across pattern for the 153 tooth flexplate)...

I have somewhat narrowed it down to the following:
Powermaster 9000 or the
Magnum 3510GRHBK
any quality issues between the 2.
thanks,

I guess I need more infor on the 95 LT-1 mini-starter. I assume it is a Delco starter. When I look at AdvanceAuto online for a 95 Camaro starter the Delco units are over $200. I have been told they should be around $120. Can someone point me to part number or something that I can make sure I get the correct thing. I guess I am just :werd:

I got a AC rebuilt unit a week ago and it cost me $44 at a local auto parts store.

We're not talking about the standard starter for his car, we're talking about the mini-starters.
Advance Auto:
Palladium P6470S - $122
Granted, I guess you need a core for that one...

After doing a bunch of searching, will I have a battery/other cable length issue if I am going from a stock 83 LG4 starter to a summit mini-starter?
If so, what are the recommendations to solve "correctly"? Is there enough slack?
thanks,
phil

I was able to make the battery cable fit.. I did have to release one of the frame brackets to get a little extra length, but no big problem..

No modification needed except for what I said above (undoing one cable mounting bracket to get about another 1.5 inches of positive cable movement)...
