setting engine timing

How do I set the timing on my engine with a mild cam? It's advanced about 35 degrees, and dies when I put it in gear.

If you still have the EST controlled distributor, you need to disconnect the EST bypass line, and start at the factory setting (6 or 0* BTDC depending on TBI or TPI) to start, increase the timing in 2* increments until you get it right.

BTW, how do you get it to start at 35* BTDC...I'm assuming that's where the base timing is at? Must be turning over real slow?
