Difference betweeen 305 and 350 dampners?

is it OK to use a 305 dampner on a 350?

what is the difference?

All the catalogs say "small block" so at face value they don't seem to be distinguishing between a 305 and 350.

Yes a 305 damper will work on a 350, as far as working goes. However, the ones that come on 350s are larger and heavier, and therefore more effective, at damping vibrations.

Even within 350 ones, there are quite a few variations. Late 60s-early 70s ones on high-perf motors like the LT-1 were 8"; ones on most cars after the motors became so limp all through the 70s were 6¾"; and then there are the timing mark variations. Of course, when you're working with a genuine race motor either you don't really care what the timing "number" is because you have nothing to compare it to, or if you do have a reference to compare your actual to, you use timing tape.
