I have a 1983 z-28 305 with a holley 4160 600 cfm carburetor. Recently, whenever the rpm drops below 750, the engine dies. It does it with a hot or cold engine. While investigating the carb, we noticed that there was gasoline dripping into the secondaries. Also it is really hard to start, i have to push the pedal down about three quarters of the way and leave it there or pump it alot before it will catch. Float to high?? Other suggestions? What can we do to fix this problem?

 

check your catalytic converter

 

...and maybe it's that cheap gas you are using...
