500 dollars later....still dont run

ok heres the problem. i have an 88 camaro w/ a 305 tbi. when i bout the car last december it ran beautiful. it was sitting for 8 years and the guy got it running so he could sell it. only has 59000 miles on it. the radiator just let go and i replaced it w/ new hoses and thermastat. while the car was w/o coolant i tried to start it figuring it would atleast run for a few second w/o coolant, just to make sure it still ran. the car wouldnt start. it turned over but then tried to fire but would run. it also had snowed the day b4 and i dont have any weather strippin from the hood to cowl. but after i rplaced the radiator 2 weeks later, the battery was reading reversed polarity. i replaced it along w/ a new cap and rotor. i went to start it up and it ran really rough.... i revved it up once and it didnt miss fire or nethin, then i revved it again and the secound i took my foot off the gas it died completely. now the thing turns over better and seems to want to fire better but it still doesnt. the gas is brand new in it and the car is original as far as i kno. it has a new alternator and starter. ne help cuz this car is killing my bank account and i want to try to figure this out on my own w/o spendin crap loads of money on a mechanic fix it or w/e....thanx

Well, since it is not starting now, check the basics...fuel and spark. After sitting eight years and then firing it up there's bound to be some gremlins. Good luck.

yea i checked the wiring and its all correct.... i pulled acouple of the plugs and they are totally black. i didnt kno there was a filter in the injectors? im gonna try new plugs and wires to be sure its not that. when it ran after i bought the new battery it was running really rich. smelt like a carberated car. right now its so freakin cold (north east) that its impossible to work on the thing in my driveway. im just lookin for possibilities.

Take off the air cleaner and look at the injectors with it running, do they spray good / similar to each other?

While the spark plugs are removed, perform the rest of your injector diagnosis. While an assistant cranks the engine, observe the injectors from the top of the throttle body as GMGOD instructed. If you can establish injector flow, you're halfway there. Crank the engine a bit more with the throttle wide open and make sure that NO fuel is sprayed in this mode. After cranking the engine over with no plugs (to help dry out the chambers from raw fuel) get the new, dry plugs in there.

Crank it briefly to see if it will fire. Excessive cranking may flood the chambers and fuel foul the plugs again.
