Thinking of putting a dif. crank shaft in 305
Does anyone know if it would be possible to fit a 400 crank shaft into a 305. I'm overhauling my engine this summer and am wondering about some ideas for power and torque. Any thoughts would be great.

Yes, it will go in the 305, but will be a waste of time. Spend your money on a better set of heads instead.

honestly man i was thinking about overhauling a 305 too but the money that you are going to spend to get a 305 to put out some decent numbers you could just get a 350 and hit the same numbers with less cash. there is just tons more stuff for the 350 and its mass produced because of the demand for it therefor its cheaper plus you have better cubes to start out with
just my 2 cents. but if you have the cash and want a quick 305. its pissible ive seen guys in the 10's with 305's

No a 400 crank will not fit in anything other then a 400. The journal size is to large, and it will cost more to have it ground down then it would to buy an aftermarket 3.75" crank.
As for rebuilding, or overhauling a 305, thats just stupid and not cost cost effective.

To make it fit, like Leigh said, the journals would have to be ground down. Also, block clearancing would be needed. In order for that to happen, you would have to remove the engine. IF the engine comes out, why not drop something with even more displacement in it.
Besides, a 3.735" bore with a 3.75" stroke is still yields a 327 cubic inch displacement.
In short, I agree with everyone else. Money in does not justify the power out.

The 305's downfall is its smallish bore diameter. Ultimately limits the valve size you can use and breathing.

ok I took in what you guys had to say and I've came up with a better solution. A 350 TPI Crate. I have one found for 2,500. Is that a good price. I shas all the internals but I'd have to add all the externals, injectors, intake runner, manifolds, throttle body, pullys. I was also thinking about puttin on some loud timing gears just to make it sound cool. But with a 350 TPI, Ram Air, and dual Flowmaster w/out cats that auta run good right? Thanks for the input.
