Engine wont Start

I am reposting this thread as it does not seem to be up since the board has been going again. Have 1986 trans am V8, start motor works but engine wont start, battery is good, fuel is going into carb. I checked for spark and there isn't any spark. I have replaced cap and rotor, still no go. I am betting it is either the ignition coil, ECM or pick up coil. Would like to know from anybody if the most likely cause is the ignition coil, there is 105,000 miles on the engine. I don't have a volt meter to check, so I am hoping that this is a common problem among other members that would point to ignition coil. I am hoping it is not the pick up coil as I do not relish the thought of having to remove the distributor. Any help in the right direction would be appreciated.

well your spark comes from ignition coil into the rotor which spins and sends it through each terminal on the cap through the wire and grounds through the plug into the block. i assume you checked for spark by pulling a wire from the cap and seeing if it shocked you? :P

i vote for a new coil.

I had a similar problem before. It turned out to be the ignition module inside the cap. Pull it and take it to your local parts store for a quick test. Take your coil at the same time, see if they can test that too. Good luck!

there are four things an engine needs to run
1. fuel
2. spark (on time)
3. air
4. compression

find out which of the four you are not getting.
