383 combo evaluation, comments

I'm open to suggestions, but here is what I have for my 383 project. It will be a street/strip car, basically a weekend machine.

AFR 195 heads street milled to 58cc
Flow numbers: @28" h2o
lift Int Exh
.200 132 108
.300 198 156
.400 240 178
.500 260 190
.550 262 192
.600 262 194

Comp Cams XR 288hr
adv. dur. 288 int 294 exh
.050 dur. 236 242
lift .555 .576 this is with 1.6 RR
I will be using reccomended lifters, springs, retainers, basically everything necessary for this cam.

Induction
Edelbrock RPM air gap
750cfm carb.

Exhaust
Longtubes (Hooker 2210)
a system with as little back pressure as possible.

shortblock:
6 in rods
SRP dished pistons (-16cc)
crank and rods are up to the challenge...

CR will be 10.4:1
DCR will be around 8.0:1

TKO 5 speed, and a 12 bolt
(rear gear ratio still undecided, 3.73's or 4.10's?)

Sorry if I missed anything. What do you guys think? Stuff I should change/add? Feel free to speak your mind.

Thanks.

Why are you having the heads milled down to 58 cc? To decrease the valve shrouding?

To get optimum burn characteristics, energy transfer and increase the compression with his dished pistons.

Thanks for the responses,

Tibo - yes, it helps reduce some of the valve shrouding and pretty much what ME Leigh said as well.

So you guys like the setup? Does anyone not like it? Anyone with experience with that cam feel free to chime in.

Have the headers Jett hot coated. I have the Hooker long tubes with their ceramic coating on them. They are now rusting badly, and I only have 6,500 miles on them. However Momar and another friend of ours had their headers done by Jett hot, and 1.5 years later there is no sign of rust, even where they are dented. Of course I could just be a small statistic.

Yes, I will definitely have them coated. I have heard about the problems with the coated that Hooker puts on them. Jett hot's sterling finish is probably the one I will get. Yea I'd hate to have them rust out, they aren't exactly cheap.
