pulling the motor

I'm getting ready to pull the 305 out of my '84 Camaro, have read where it might be necessary to drill holes to get to some of the eng-to-trans bolts (!!??!!) has anyone run into this situation before?? or is it just bull---t......I have an auto trans, should I pull the trans first then the engine, or is it possible/necessary to pull both together? These questions may have been answered somewhere , but I havent found them.......thanks, Dirk, for getting the site back up and running again......

I just pull my motor this past weekend i did not have to drill any holes sounds like bull to me. I drop my trans left the bell housing on and pulled the motor right out of the car.
