Sounds like you have a couple spark plug wires backwards.

make sure the header gasket didn't slip when you put it one and it is covering an exhaust port.
But, yeah, 1st thing check the plug wires. Also make sure the wires aren't sitting on the headers.

Either crossed wires or burnt wires and you're getting arch across multiple wires. Open the hood and fire it up at night. If you're getting arching, you'll see it.

All of the wires are correct and completly fine. However now the problems have become alot more severe. Ill be cruisn and all of the sudden it will just start boggin out, backfireing like crazy, shooting out fire, and sounding like its running on about 3 cylinders. A little history: Just put headers on, have flex pipe connecting where I removed the cat till I can get the High Flow on(major exhaust leak) and I just ran her out of gas before the problem started. All mechanics are stunned because I cannot get the car to mess up in front of them. Im thinking maybe a combonation of a clogged fuel filter from when I ran it out of gas, too much air being sucked back in through the exhaust leaks and the fact that I think my throttle body is slowly dieing? Because in between the mist of fuel you can see it dripping out gas, im guessing all of the backfires through the throttle body are takeing a toll

it sounds like your having a timing, lean condition, or wires crossed issue, those are the first places I'd check, mabe R2 the fuel filter, and defenatly check the timing, and run the car on a dark night with the hood open, put a load on it (have someone you trust hold the break and gas in drive) and see if any wires "glow", the exauast should have nothing to do with the problem you describe

I hade the same problem once I started converting to mostly independent electronics(everything on its own system instead of one computer). I changed out the the exhaust for a flowmaster system without cat. Then stuff started messin up, sputtering lik you say it does. There is a small tube that runs from the cat to the smog pump or to something that has to do with smog, when you remove it a sensor doesnt get the proper reading and screws up your fuel flow, another thing is, it heating up and then messing up it could be your O2 sensor sense it has to heat up before the engine runs on closed loop, Did you remember to put it back in your headers where its located? It took me and my dad a long time of guessing and checking to get that sputtering to stop but we did it. I've got a 305 with the computer removed, edelbrock 600 carb, edelbrock performer intake, MSD dig. 6 with MSD distributer, perf. wires, and all smog stuff removed. And it runs fine now. Just double check a haynes manual or something and see if all your sensors are working right.
