self align ?
Do you need self align rockers if using guide plates?
seems to me they would do the same function.
I just got a set of roller rockers and the tips are flat rollers. From what I've seen described the self aligns "should" have something on the roller tip to keep them over the valve stem.
I have an 87 roller cam motor and Sportsman II heads with guide plates. I never looked at the original rockers I took off.
Just looking for some clarification.
TIA,
Jp

If you have guide plates you must not use self aligning rockers. So you will be all set with the standard rocker tips.
Any time you are doing valve train geometry there must only be one method of alignment. The are:
1. Self aligning tips
OR
2. Guide Plates
OR
3. The narrow slots in the heads that are just as wide as the push rods.
If more than one method is used you will end up with funky things happening due to bind. It may not happen right off the bat, however, it will happen like broken rocker stud etc.

Thanks,
That was what I was thinking that two parts trying to be the aignment device would conflict.
I feel better now
