Emissions Crap Question.

what do you guys think the 190hp 305 H.O. would gain after ripping off every ounce of emissions. slapping on hedman headers full flowmaster 3" exaust(gutted cat)(40series), RPM air gap, Holley 670, and electric fans. just light stuff but any type of guestimate would be good. what do you think? like 250 or so?

Probably not as much as 250. Most of the gain you get will be from the exhaust, the other items aren't holding you back much.

I highly doubt you'll see 250hp by those mods...only way I see possible to get that kind of power from that engine is look into heads and/or cam upgrades. That's my opinion though, i'm sure you'll get more ideas on here.

I would think 250 would be a generous guestimate. The best you can do for it, along with everything else would be a JET chip, and the most power gain by far would be from an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Letting the motor breathe will only get ya so far without giving it MORE to breathe. DONT FORGET to get a K&N air filter..

He'll get absolutely zero gain whatsoever from an adjustable fuel pressure regulator.

Of course - he's got a carb!

I didn't think so either, but I read an article in Hot Rod magazine that proved an increase of about 25 H.P. on a F.I SBC by turning up the pressure on it. They even had the dyno chart to prove it. Go too far, and you'll start to loose power.

My bad, I was thinking he had a TPI setup.

For what its worth, I recently sold my 85 T/A. It was a bone stock 305 with the computer controlled non H.O. 305. I took the air punp off, installed headers, and a dynomax exhaust system, K&N air filter, and loosened up the springs on the secondaries, and just by going by feel, I would say a 20 or 25 HP increase from all that. Most of the gain was at top end, but it did a hell of alot better burnout at low end. Still not much of a powerhouse even with that, but worth the money for what I got.
