How many vacuum lines does the AC system use?

I just fixxed the broken line that goes behind/below the battery to that big black vacuum ball and my ac works much better than it did before. However I was told all that ball does it help with the doors and such for the a/c.

But after fixxing it, my car's ac works (by works I mean stays on much longer than before. Used to come on 20 seconds after I turned it on, then die 15 seconds after that and come back on when I applied the brakes to a stop. Today it stayed on for over 20 minutes).

Is there another vacuum hose that works in conjunction with the a/c system?

Not that I'm aware of. The A/C system is fully enclosed system for the refrigerant that has various electrical connectors for switches and the A/C compressor clutch and super-heater element.

The vacuum reservoir only provides a stable source of vacuum for the HVAC and cruise under varying engine conditions. If your's was bad, it could be that the dampers in the system were opening and closing uncontrollably as the engine was operating at different loads.

This is about all there is:

Thanks Vader!!

Well here's how it acted today....it was on alot, but it kept going on and off....I'm talking w/i seconds of eachother. It was raining all day today, do you think that water splashing might be hitting a wire and causing it to short out like that? Or would that be impossible?

Other than that, I'll thoroughly check all wires and connectors tomorrow or so.

Is it the compressor that comes on and off (cycles), or the dampers sporatically opening/closing?

When it starts to flip on/off, I can feel it tug on the engine, so I guess it's the compressor cycling like mad.

What and where are the dampers on that schematic? What to they do?

Sonds like your a/c system is low on refrigerant.

Those dampers direct air from the blower to the various vents in your dashboard. Theyre contolled by the HVAC head (thing you use to select heat, a/c defrost, etc.).

I'm not being a smartass with this reply, but how would low refridgerant cause it to act like this? Wouldn't low refridgerant cause the air to be not cold? Again, no disrespect, I just plain don't know a/c stuff and I'm dying to understand this car real fast.

How much does it cost to fill 'er up with refridgerant?
