Just 1 "computer" in a 3rd gen, right ?

My mechanic is telling me, unless I misunderstood him, that there is a "computer", and also a "circuit board", 2 different things, that he needs to examine on my car. He also says he needs to remove the dash to get to the "computer". He says he is going to take out a circuit borad and visually examine it for burned spots, and also run a diagnostic on the "computer". I thought the only "computer" was the ECM chip which is located right under the kick panel on passenger side, no need to remove dash. I also thought to check the computer, you just plugged a scanner into the aldl. No ?

How many computers / chips / circuit boards? Need to remove dash ? Need to remove computer / circuit board / chip to check them ?

Thanks

First, what is the problem your mechanic is trying to resolve? If it has something to do with your digital display, then the mechanic may have to remove part of the dash.

You are right that the ecm is under the passenger side kick panel and doesn't take more than 15 minutes to remove.
