Car used to always run 160* but now its running 220*

My car has a 160* thermostat and hypertech thermomaster, ever since i had the car its ran at 160* until now and its starting to rise up higher.. I just had my timing checked and he said it was like 6 or 8 * off.. does that mess with your temp at all? any other suggestions would be appreciated.. thanks

6 or 8* off what the factory specs are, or 6-8* beyond anything beneficial for the engine?

Anyways, yes, if your timing is advancaed too much it could cause overheating issues.

True that timing can increase engine teprature but no way is it going to increase it 60 degres! You probably have a water pump going out or the radiator is getting full of sludge.

I'm not so sure I would trust your guage. If you were "really" running 160° (that's pretty cool) you would have MORE problems than if you were running 220°.

Normal operating temp (by design) is 90°C which converts to 194°F. Stock stat is 195°. Fan turn on temp is 234°. And your ECM is dependant on your coolant reaching 176° to make it's last coolant based decision.

If you're running 220° and don't have the A/C on you'll never even see cooling fan operation (on a stock unit).
