Is there a special tool for removing the o2 sensor?
I was wondering if there was a special tool for removing the o2 sensor? Can I buy it at the auto parts store? Is it cheap? I know the sensor has a wire going to it, so I can't use a regular socket. And I don't think I can fit a open end or Box end in there.
Thanks dudes
Mike

Easiest way i've found is to use the O2 sensor socket (has a groove in it to lay the wire aside...not necessary for removal, but saves mangling it on install) and use a 12inch extension, the ratchet comes out in front of the exhaust manifold and gives you plenty of acccess to get leverage on it...BTW, I used 1/2inch drive for it.
WCGTA,
Since you're replacing the sensor anyway, clip the wire and use a standard deep socket. Apply extra anti-seize compound to the new sensor (they never give you enough) and install it with an open end or box wrench. They don't have to be really torqued, just enough to crush the metal gasket ring.

Thanks for the advice guys. I don't think my old sensor is bad, I am just changing it for peace of mind. Who knows when the last time it was changed!
Thanks again

If you're going to use the o2 sensor socket, be sure to wear some kind of mechanic's gloves.. chances are the socket will slip off a couple of times.
On the other hand, if you're going to cut the wire, make sure you're going to be able to get the sensor out. heh
It's also easier to do this with a warm engine, so maybe burnsleeves would help too.
