damn flapping ac belt

when i turn on my ac in my car the belt starts flapping up and down and about a month ago it snapped and took out my power steering belt which took out the belt that goes to my harmonic balancer. so i changed all my belts and now it is still all ****ed up so what is wrong with my ac. Is it the compresser?

Is the belt tight??

Are all the acc. (alt, A/C comp., etc.) tight?? Any bolts missing...

Are there any broken/missing brackets...??

on my 85 I have a problem w/ the AC belt taking out the radiator hose. I've had to place a protective cover over it to keep the AC belt from wearing into the hose. The AC and PS belts on our cars are a PITA to adjust, and even when properly adjusted are sloppy.

I've never (knock on wood.. ) had a problem, I always tighten the P/S belt first, and make the A/C belt as tight as possible with a bar.

james_fearn: If you are hitting the hose with the belt, one of those 2 items is wrong. They should never touch.

I had a similar problem. Nothing was wrong w/ the A/C compressor, and the belt was tight. It doesn't help that the belt has to span so far and turn such a high load. I just said the hell with it and converted to serpentine belt drive. Check it out, it took less than two hours start to finish. Serp setup
