Terrible Cold Starts

I have a stock 305 engine. Recently, when trying to start my car, it takes a long time for the car to turn over. I have recently replaced all the plugs, cap and rotor. Could my starter be going out?.. Thanks.

Sonar,

A little more definition, please. When you say "it takes a long time for the car to turn over" do you mean the starter doesn't engage for a long time, or that the starter runs (cranks the engine) a long time before the engine fires?

Sorry for being a little vauge..

the engine tries to turn over.. but it takes about 30 seconds before it finally does turn over, so yes, the starter is trying to start the engine..

My '91 Formula 350 did that, however it was probably 10 seconds. It turned out to be the fuel pump was the culprit. About a week before I ran the car very low on gas and thats what did it. I have heard that from several people, that their fuel pump went out shortly after running out of gas or very low on gas. I don't know if its true of not. There is a relay and an oil pressure switch that sends power to the fuel pump. This is so if the relay goes bad, as long as you have oil pressure, the car will run. If the relay is bad, the car will be hard to start until it can build up enough oil pressure (only 4-5psi) for the oil pressure switch to send power to the fuel pump. Listen real hard right after you turn on the key, the pump should run for 2 seconds. Hope this helps.

I was over exagerating the 30 seconds, it is more like 10, but when your car is trying to turn over like that, it feels like 30 seconds.

Thanks for the info, I will try that..
