Symptoms of a "rolled cam lobe"

Any other way to find out besides openiong it up and checking the rocker arms for movement?

Mine had a backfire through the intake/carb (rounded exhaust lobe), if you have a backfire through the exhaust, then you have a bad intake lobe. Generally, the car had a miss and rough/shaky idle. Change your oil and you should have shavings in the oil if the lobe is truly bad.

89gta383's POP through the carb describes it to a T. It acts like the Timing is jacked up badly although its not. Even if you pull the valve covers you still may no see for sure, I pulled my valve covers and all rocker movment was similar although when I pulled the cam there were sevral very dead lobes. You can pull some plugs and see if there wet compared to another, but who's to say the whole cam isnt dead. You could also run a cmpression check on each hole but still all the lobes could be gone.
A cam change is a fun job good luck!
