swap meet

I am building my first race car and going to be going to a swap meet real soon to get some parts i need an engine block and looking for a tranny im interested in a bare 350 block or if i could find one would it be better to go with a 400 block and im looking at a th400 trans. i just want to know what to look for in buying a used block and trans. I am hopefully going to be looking at 500 -600hp and i was woundering if i should get a factory 4 bolt main or get a 2 bolt and get splayed caps.

thanks

the 350's the 4 bolt mains are stronger (if you dont feel like paying for splaying..... hey, that kinda rhymed ). The 400's the 2 bolt mains are stronger.

If I was you, I'd try to find a 2 bolt 400, and stroke the engine... 500-600RWHP is easier to achieve with more cubes, of course

But i was thinking about a tunnel ram do you think that would be a good.

2 bolt 400 all the way, I don't think you can go wrong.
The only reason I didn't get a 400 is becasue the stuff to build them is more expensive, plus I wasn't after that much power.

2 bolt main and splay it. Check the bore too. If I were dealing with that much power I would only deal with a virgin bore. Preferably an aftermarket block.

i heard that a used 350 block could run from 50-200 bucks but how much more would a 400 cost.
