Its something best left to someone with the experience and tools to do it properly. If you have access to the tools, thats a plus... but nothing beats someone who has done one before.

Set up correctly gears will last a long, long time. Set up wrong and they may last only a block or two.

350 with stealth intake, holley carb, 470 lift cam. 700r4 with .5 boost valve, vette servo, tci lock-up kit, B&M megashifter. Richmond 3.73 gears, powertrax locker, timkin bearings, synthetic lube. Custom 3 inch single into 2 2.5 pipes. 1 1/2 drop springs, 1 5/16 solid front sway bar, 1 inch rear bar, custom subframe connectors, custom LCA relocation brackets. Kobel ground FX, current red metallic paint. Lots of other stuff...

they're not really hard to install they just require tools most people don't have or know how to use. it only takes a few hours to install a set of gears. i've read of people on here spending 500 or more for labor for gears. i'd guess the flat rate is under 2 hours. it's sort of a black art to most so they pay the big bucks for it.

Since you are going from 2.73 to 3.73, you will need to get "3" series gears for a "2" series carrier. A standard 3.73 will not work.

Don't forget to also replace your speedo gears.
